Strahov Monastery

Used to represent the library at the Palace of Versailles in Paris, the Strahov Monastery appeared in early episodes of Outlander season 2. It is here that Jamie and minister of finance, Joseph Duverney play chess, and where the Comte St. Germain poisons Claire.

Once an important centre of learning and knowledge, the Strahov Monastery is located in Strahov, Prague, Czech Republic. It is a Premonstratensian abbey founded in 1143 by Bishop Jindrich Zdík, Bishop John of Prague, and Duke Vladislav II. The library is protected, and tourists are not allowed to enter. However, an exception was made for filming Outlander.
